WHEN

2020

“We were approached by the head of Alfred Salter Primary School after she had seen what we had done for StJ+C Primary. They were keen to explore what we could do to upgrade the school’s look and feel - and to address an inherited problem - the over use of the colour red!

Alfred Salter Primary is based in Rotherhithe South East London and boasts an incredible outside space considering it’s busy inner London location - so we wanted to reflect this in the branding. ”

CONCEPT

We agreed to update the exisiting logo for a few reasons, one was based on practicality - the logo appeared throughout the school applied to windows and other surfaces - by keeping the footprint of the logo the same we could easily reprint and apply over existing logos.

The concept for the brand was centred around the school’s moto - A Place To Learn - and the heritage of the tree as a founding emblem of the school.

We expanded upon the idea of the tree, setting roots, growing upwards, creating new brances and leaves - very much echoing the idea of education, nurturing the youngest members and supporting them as they grown and learn.

We settled on an abstract terrazzo innterpration of the leaves to convey and celebrate the energy and diversity of the school.

A more complex design system was developed but with the goal for it to be easy enough to ececute by involved. It also allowed for creative play and personality - teachers could choose which colourway to use to suit the materials they would produce for a class.

An alternative logo was also created with the intened use internal and business communications.

“We had so much creating this work for Alfred Salter - they were extremely pleased with the outcome and totally blown away with what we achieved. It gave the school renewed sense of confidence as a place to learn.”
